Bundesliga Top Tips for Midweek and Weekend Games

Last week in the Bundesliga, things at the top of the table became a little clearer, with all teams dropping points bar the leaders Bayern Munich, it now means that the Bavarian side require just three wins from their remaining five games in order to clinch an eighth successive Bundesliga title.

However, the race for the three remaining Champions League places, a place in the Europa League and for the teams battling to avoid relegation or the relegation playoff spot, is still very much raging and these will certainly be the focus for many teams in the Bundesliga over the coming week. Tonight sees Werder Bremen taking on Eintracht Frankfurt in their game in hand on the rest of the teams and from Friday Night we also have another weekend of top Bundesliga action, with some crucial and eye-catching matches to look forward to.

Let’s get started now with our preview of this weeks games which begin with the crucial match tonight affecting the bottom of the table, as well as the full set of 9 games taking place from Friday night through to Sunday in the Bundesliga.

Midweek Game

Werder Bremen v Eintracht Frankfurt (Wed 7.30)

A crucial battle between two teams desperate to avoid the drop. Frankfurt’s concerns were eased thanks to a fine win at Wolfsburg last week and Bremen, while still in the relegation zone, have picked up seven points from the last nine available to move within touching distance of safety. Both teams know a win here would be huge for their season and while I think both would love to take three points, I also feel that a draw may well be acceptable.

Tip – Back the draw tonight at 5/2 with bet365.

Weekend Fixtures

SC Freiburg v Borussia Moenchengladbach (Fri, 7.30)

Eighth in the table takes on fifth in what is a crucial game for both teams. A defeat for Freiburg and their Europa League hopes will all but evaporate, whereas a defeat for Borussia could be hugely costly in their quest for Champions League qualification. Both sides form of late has been a bit up and down, but Freiburg are generally tough to beat at home. That said, Borussia are so dangerous on the counter, so I am going for them to sneak a narrow victory here.

Tip -Back Borussia to claim a narrow win at 3/4 with bet365.

Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern Munich (Sat, 2.30)

Had they lost at Dortmund, this could have been a very tricky game for Bayern Munich but that win gives them a nice cushion in the table and I think will ease the pressure on them for this game. Leverkusen did beat Bayern 2-1 in Munich, Leon Bailey scoring both goals that day, but this time around, I can see Munich, who have won 18 or their last 19 games, gaining revenge for that loss by landing a similar win here.

Tip – Bayern Munich to win – 4/9.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Mainz 05 (Sat 2.30)

It will be interesting to see how fit Frankfurt, for whom this will be their fourth game in the past two weeks, will be in this one. Mainz though are not in a great place and although they have picked up some draws, defensively they have been so open at times. Frankfurt’s attack is creating chances and they have picked up four points from their last two games before their midweek clash with Bremen. I fancy them to make it another three points here too.

Tip – Frankfurt to win – 10/11.

Fortuna Dusseldorf v TSG Hoffenheim (Sat 2.30)

Both these teams face different pressures, Dusseldorf are trying to hold off Bremen below them while pushing to move out of the playoff spot by catching Mainz above them. Hoffenheim lie 7th, likely good enough for a Europa League place next season, but they are also being chased by Freiburg and Hertha. However, Hoffenheim have hit form at just the right time and I feel they will be too good for Dusseldorf here.

Tip – Hoffenheim to win – 11/8.

Red Bull Leipzig v Paderborn (Sat 2.30)

After being thrashed last week at home by Dortmund, the last thing Paderborn will have wanted would be to travel to a team that have scored almost as many goals in the Bundesliga this season. Leipzig have lost just three games this season, one fewer than Bayern Munich, but ten draws means they are nine points behind the leaders. However that gap won’t increase any here as they should land a very comfortable home win.

Tip – Red Bull Leipzig to land a strong home win at 1/7.

Borussia Dortmund v Hertha Berlin (Sat 5.30)

Dortmind returned to winning ways last weekend with a 6-1 thrashing of Paderborn, but they face a Hertha Berlin side in great form since the restart with 10 points bagged from their four games. Having drawn in Leipzig against Red Bull, this trip won’t faze the visitors, but I think Dortmund showed last week they can be ultra clinical at times and I feel that they will maintain their push for a Champions League spot here.

Tip – Take Dortmund to win a narrow one here at 1/3.

Werder Bremen v Wolfsburg (Sun 12.30)

Bremen have found some form of late to take seven points from the last nine available to close the gap on the team’s above them in their relegation battle. Wolfsburg, while struggling at home, have won both their games on the road since the restart. They will start the favourites here but I just think Bremen are showing a bit of steel at the moment and I think they can continue their battle against the drop.

Tip – Back Bremen to land a surprise win at 23/10.

Union Berlin v Schalke 04 (Sun 2.30)

Since the Bundesliga restarted, Schalke have been the worst team in the competition, losing all four of their games, scoring just one goal and conceding ten. David Wagner’s team have dropped from sixth to tenth and more worryingly, seem devoid of any attacking flair or inspiration. Union Berlin have managed just one point in their last four, but at least their performances have showed a bit of fight and flair and that should be enough to land them the win here.

Tip – Back Union Berlin to win at 27/20

Augsburg v Cologne (Sun 5.00)

Augsburg could move level on points with Cologne with a win here, and they have picked up four points in their last four games, compared to just two for their opponents. Cologne’s problem has been conceding goals with 11 conceded in those four games. This is a game that I do feel will see goals and which will be closely fought, but I just have the feeling that in the end, both teams will settle for a point.

Tip – This looks likely to be a draw to me at 12/5.
