Champions League Quarterfinals

Wed – Atalanta v Paris St Germain

Match Odds – Atalanta 13/5, PSG 10/11., Draw 3/1

Atalanta lost their three opening group games of this competition, so to then qualify and beat Valencia 8-4 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals is a magnificent effort. However, I feel the freescoring Bergamo side may have gone as far as they are likely to given the quality of their opponents in this tie.

PSG have been very solid in the Champions League this season, beating Real Madrid to top spot in their group and dismissing Dortmund in the Round of 16. Mbappe’s lack of fitness after injury in the French Cup Final is a concern, but even without him they should have too much quality here for the Italian side.

Both teams are freescoring teams and I do expect there to be plenty of goals in this one. It may be a question of who can outscore whom and in that case, my money would be on the French side.

  • Match Winner – PSG 10/11
  • Correct Score – Atalanta 1-3 Paris St Germain – 12/1
  • Anytime Goalscorer – Neymar (PSG) – Evens

Thu – Atletico Madrid v Red Bull Leipzig

Match Odds – At.Madrid 27/20, R.B Leipzig 23/10, Draw 21/10

These two teams defeated last year’s finalists, Liverpool and Tottenham, to reach the quarterfinals and both will harbour real ambitions to go a step further in this tournament, however, I feel there is one decisive factor that means Atletico Madrid are the team that will achieve this.

That is the absence in attack of Red Bull’s key striker this season Timo Werner, who has now signed for Chelsea. Werner’s absence leaves a gaping hole in that Red Bull attack and I think deals a fatal blow to their hopes of landing a win in this game.

The Spanish side have not been at their best this season but still finished third and knocked Liverpool out of this competition at Anfield. I think they have the experience and knowhow to nullify Leipzig and grab a goal which will likely be enough to see them through.

  • Match Winner – Atletico Madrid – 27/20
  • Correct Score – Atletico Madrid 1-0 Red Bull Leipzig – 6/1
  • Anytime Goalscorer – Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid) – 2/1

Fri – Bayern Munich v Barcelona

Match Odds – Bayern M 19/20, Barcelona 12/5, Draw 3/1

A game that is good enough to grace the final. These two teams are no strangers to meeting in this competition and both have enjoyed success and failure in the past in the fixture. At the moment, it seems to be Bayern who hold the upper hand after a stellar second half to their season saw them comfortably land the German League and Cup double, as well as see off Chelsea in the Round of 16.

Barcelona’s hopes have been dismissed by many but they are still a huge attacking threat as any team with the likes of Suarez and Messi in the team would be. However, Bayern are a juggernaut at the moment and it is hard to see them messing up in this one.

I do feel Barcelona will give them a much sterner test than many are predicting but I still feel Bayern will run out comfortable winners in the end.

  • Match Winner – Bayern Munich – 19/20
  • Correct Score – Bayern Munich 3-1 Barcelona – 12/1
  • Anytime Goalscorer – Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich) – 8/5

Sat – Manchester City v Lyon

Match Odds – Man City 2/9, Lyon 11/1, Draw 11/2

It’s rare that I feel that the bookies have priced up a game a little lop-sided but I do feel this is the case here. I get why they are so keen on City given their form of late, but Lyon are no mugs and 11/1 on the French team to win the game is incredible value if you fancy an outside bet, but unfortunately I don’t.

There’s no way City are as dominant as those odds suggest. Lyon have played City twice, beating them at the Etihad and drawing with them at home and that was just last season. They have beaten Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo to get this far. They are going to give City a real test here.

That said, it is a test I think City will pass, but it will not be anywhere near as easy as the bookies are making out.

  • Match Winner – Man City – 2/9
  • Correct Score – Manchester City 2-1 Lyon – 13/2
  • Anytime Goalscorer – Raheem Sterling (Man City) – 8/11

Good luck with any bets you make on the games and let’s hope that we land as many winners as we possibly can!
