Premier League Round Up and Preview of Week Six Games

We had plenty of controversy and excitement in the Premier League last weekend. We saw West Ham come from 3-0 down against Tottenham with just six minutes of normal time remaining to clinch a remarkable 3-3 draw, Mario Lanzini scoring the equaliser with what amounted to the last meaningful kick of the game. We saw Man Cty and Man United record much needed wins, Chelsea conceded a last gasp equaliser to Southampton and then there was the Merseyside derby at Goodison.

The fact the game finished 2-2 barely tells the story, with Everton keeper Jordan Pickford’s awful tackle seeing Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk injured with a cruciate knee ligament injury, and incredibly the tackle went unpunished. Richarlison was sent off for an equally awful tackle on Thiago, and Liverpool thought they had won it in injury time, but Jordan Henderson’s strike was ruled out for the dodgiest VAR decision you will ever see. So it is fair to say this next weekend has a lot to live up to in terms of drama and excitement!

Let’s now take a look at the weekend ahead in the Premier League and also give you our tips for each of the ten games taking place.

Premier League – Matchday 6 Fixtures and Tips

  • Aston Villa v Leeds United

Villa have been the surprise team of the Premier League this season and I fancy them to continue that good form against a Leeds side that will miss Kalvin Phillips in midfield through injury. Leeds will make it tough but Villa’s confidence is so high at the moment that I feel they could be set to make it five wins from five games here. Take Aston Villa to win at 13/10.

  • West Ham v Manchester City

Manchester City have won all of the last ten against West Ham and few teams have as bad a record against City as the Hammers. That said, the home side are unbeaten in three and should be confident after their miracle comeback against Spurs last weekend. That said, I can’t see them getting anything here with City starting to look a bit more like themselves. Take the away win in this one at 4/11.

  • Fulham v Crystal Palace

Two sides in contrasting form will battle out a London derby at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon. Fulham, for me, are the poorest team in the Premier League by quite some margin and I think they are going to have a real struggle on this season to stay up. As such, with Palace in relatively decent form, I think the Eagles will be the team that come out on top here. Take Palace to land a narrow, low-scoring win at 8/5.

  • Manchester United v Chelsea

This is the biggest game of the weekend and it should be a cracker at Old Trafford. United will be boosted by a fine win at Newcastle and an even better win over PSG in the Champions League in midweek, while Chelsea drew their last two games, both at home. That said, I still fancy Chelsea to get something from this game due to their pacy attack which I feel will give United a few problems. As such, I am backing the draw here at 12/5.

  • Liverpool v Sheffield United

There is no doubt Liverpool will have plenty of lingering anger from the game last weekend at Everton and against a Sheff Utd side with just one point this season, I would expect the Reds to put that to good use here. They have an incredible record at home in the Premier League and it would be a huge surprise if this game does not finish in anything less than a strong win for the home side. Back a Liverpool win at 1/5.

  • Southampton v Everton

Southampton are unbeaten in three, Everton in all five of their games so far, although the Toffee’s were extraordinarily fortunate to hang on for a draw against Liverpool last weekend. The Saints scored a last minute leveller against Chelsea to earn themselves a great point on the road and buoyed by that, I expect them to give the Toffees a real test here. I think this one has the hallmarks of a draw which is a 5/2 shot with bet365.

  • Wolves v Newcastle United

For me, this game is a home banker. Newcastle’s form this season has been very erratic and in truth they don’t really show any signs of being able to maintain a challenge in the upper reaches of this division. Wolves on the other hand, very much do and I think with home advantage and on the back of two wins, they will land another comfortable win here. Take Wolves to win at 8/11.

  • Arsenal v Leicester City

Both these sides suffered 1-0 defeats last week, Arsenal on the road at Manchester City and Leicester at home to Aston Villa. I felt the Gunners were a little below par against City going forward and they’ll want to improve on that here against a team that is one place above them in the league table. Leicester have lost their last two games and I fear their luck won’t improve any here. I’m backing Arsenal to win at 17/20.

  • Brighton v West Brom

The early game on Monday night sees two teams who are next to each other in the table, although Brighton have got a point more than the Baggies. Brighton have flattered to deceive this season, playing very well in some games but not picking up the points their performances have merited. That said, I am confident they will do that here against a West Brom side I feel are struggling at this level once again. I’d back Brighton to land the win here at 5/6.

  • Burnley v Tottenham

Monday evening’s final game sees winless Burnley taking on a Spurs side that will be angry at dropping two points against West Ham last week. Despite leading 3-0 with a few minutes to go, the Hammers struck back to level in injury time to dent Spurs aspirations. Burnley have struggled for form this season though and I think Spurs are more dangerous on the road and as such, I am backing them to land the win here. Take Spurs to win at 8/13.
