Who Continues Their Strong Start in the EPL This Weekend?

After the second weekend of action in the Premier League, which saw Manchester City, Sports streaming in March 2020Manchester United, Aston Villa and Burnley belatedly get their campaigns underway, we have just five teams in the Premier League that have played two games and won both of them and it is the Champions from a few season’s back, Leicester City, that lead the way in the table on goal difference.

Four other teams join the Foxes on maximum points, with Man City and Aston Villa also having 100% winning records after their opening league game last week. Last week was a special one in the Premier League with the greatest number of goals, 44, scored across the ten games in the competitions history.

Let’s now look back over what was an incredible weekend of action in the Premier League last week, which resulted in a record 44 goals being scored across the ten games that took place.

Premier League Matchday 2 Results

  • Everton 5-2 West Brom
  • Leeds Utd 4-3 Fulham
  • Man Utd 1-3 Crystal Palace
  • Arsenal 2-1 West Ham
  • Southampton 2-5 Tottenham
  • Newcastle 0-3 Brighton
  • Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool
  • Leicester City 4-2 Burnley
  • Aston Villa 1-0 Sheff Utd
  • Wolves 1-3 Manchester City

Of the four teams not to play last week, Manchester City and Aston Villa picked up valuable wins, while Man Utd and Burnley went down to defeat. Along with City and Villa who have played one game each, five teams have played two matches and won both with Leicester leading the way at the top of the table on goal difference from Everton with Arsenal third, Liverpool fourth and Crystal Palace fifth.

So far, seven teams in the division are yet to pick up any points with goal difference separating the teams in the following order, Burnley, Manchester United, West Ham, Sheffield United, Fulham, Southampton and West Brom.

One quirky factor is that the away teams have had the better of things so far this season with 11 of the 18 games played finishing in away wins (61%) with the other 7 results being home wins (39%). Oddly, there have been no drawn games in the EPL as yet this season.

Let’s now take a look at the games we have lined up across this coming weekend from Saturday through to Monday.

Premier League Matchday 3 Fixtures, Preview and Tips

Saturday 26th September

  • 30pm – Brighton v Manchester United
  • 00pm – Crystal Palace v Everton
  • 30pm – West Brom v Chelsea
  • 00pm – Burnley v Southampton

Can Manchester United get back to winning ways after a very poor display at home to Crystal Palace last weekend? They face a Brighton side who were superb in their 3-0 win away to Newcastle last weekend but who were well beaten at home by Arsenal in their opening fixture, which will give United hope they can emulate the Gunner’s success here.

Other games see two sides with six points clash at Selhurst Park as Palace take on a vastly improved Everton side who I think will go well this season under Carlo Ancelotti. I fancy Chelsea to grab the points against a West Brom side that will be without the suspended Kieran Gibbs following his dismissal over Everton. Lastly, Burnley and Southampton seek their first points of the season in what I feel will be a very close game at Turf Moor.

Saturday EPL Tips

  • Brighton v Man Utd – Man Utd to win 2-1 – 17/2
  • Crystal Pal v Everton – Richarlison to score anytime – 7/4
  • WBA v Chelsea – Timo Werner to score 2+ Goals – 10/3
  • Burnley v Southampton – Southampton to win 1-0 – 13/2

Sunday 27th September

  • 00pm – Sheffield United v Leeds United
  • 00pm – Tottenham v Newcastle United
  • 30pm – Manchester City v Leicester City
  • 00pm – West Ham United v Wolves

A Yorkshire derby game kicks off Sunday in spectacular fashion as Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United take on the free-spirited and high scoring Leeds United in what should be a lunchtime cracker to enjoy. This is followed by another intriguing game as Tottenham, who thumped Southampton 5-2 last week with Hyeong-Min Son scoring four, take on a Newcastle side that were well beaten at home by Brighton last week by a 0-3 scoreline.

Next up is a real top half clash as top of the table Leicester City travel north to take on Manchester City at the Etihad in what should be a real feast of football. Finally, the action rounds off back in the capital as out of form West Ham United seek their first points of the season at home to Wolves in what is an important game for both teams.

Sunday EPL Tips

  • Sheff Utd v Leeds Utd – Leeds United to win 3-1 – 22/1
  • Tottenham v Newcastle – NT/FT – Tottenham/Tottenham – 5/4
  • Man City v Leicester – Man City to win and both teams to score – 11/8
  • West Ham v Wolves – Wolves to win 2-1 – 9/1

Monday 28th September

  • 00pm – Fulham v Aston Villa
  • 15pm – Liverpool v Arsenal

Monday nights first game sees Fulham who have lost both their opening games, take on Aston Villa who have won their only EPL game so far. The Villains would love to make it six points from six, but I feel that Fulham will have the bit between their teeth for this game after pushing Leeds United so close at Elland Road last week.

Then the second game on Monday night is a Premier League classic as Liverpool face off against Arsenal at Anfield in a game between two teams with maximum points so far in the season. The Gunners have won the last two between the teams (albeit the Charity Shield on penalties) so the home side have a point to prove here in what looks like being a cracking encounter.

Monday EPL Tips

  • Fulham v Aston Villa – Mitrovic to score first and Fulham to win 2-1 – 40/1
  • Liverpool v Arsenal – Mo Salah to score the first goal – 3/1
