Given the shortened football season in the UK, the FA Cup Fifth Round, which usually takes place
While Liverpool and Arsenal are already eliminated from the competition, a host of other top sides including Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea, West Ham, Leicester City and both Manchester City and Manchester United, are all in action hoping to further their aims of silverware.
The eight games see four all-Premier League clashes, including a couple of very big hitters going head to head. The remaining half of the game pit some Championship league opponents against Premier League sides with the possibility of an upset in a couple of those games.

FA Cup Fifth Round Ties
Tuesday 9th February
Burnley v Bournemouth
Bournemouth don’t have the best record against Burnley. The south coast side has won just one of the last six between the two teams. Burnley winning all the rest and the home side have won all the last four, often by a decent margin. Sean Dyche’s men are the Premier League side here and also have home advantage and in truth, I think it would be a big surprise if they didn’t come through with the victory here.
- Our Top Bet – Burnley to win 13/10
Manchester United v West Ham
Will West Ham fancy their chances of an upset here given Manchester United’s erratic home form this season? The Hammers are in good form and David Moyes has his team playing well. United are up and down at home this season but I think with this being a one off game, they have tended to be more consistent in those games this season. As such, I think the home side will just about nab the victory with a narrow 2-1 win.
- Our Top Bet – Manchester United to win 2-1 – 15/2
Wednesday 10th February
Swansea City v Manchester City
Swansea City are looking likely to be in with a shout of promotion from The Championship this
- Our Top Bet – Manchester City to win 3-1 – 10/1
Leicester City v Brighton
A look at the table suggests an easy win for Leicester here, but Brighton have lost just one of their last nine and that was away at Manchester City. They have also beaten Leicester here already this season in the league and I think they will be quietly confident of getting through here. Leicester’s home form isn’t great but even so, this should still be very close. I think this game will require extra time and may even require penalties to decide the winner. It is too close to call.
- Our Top Bet – Draw – 14/5
Sheffield United v Bristol City
Sheffield United fans have not had a huge amount to enjoy this season, given their struggles in the Premier League. A decent cup run would certainly be a welcome bonus for the Blades. Having already knocked Bristol Rovers out of this competition they now take on their city rivals Bristol City, who come into this game with just one win in the last five. City are a decent outfit in the Championship but I think the Blades will be too sharp for them here.
- Our Top Bet – Sheffield United to win 2-0 – 13/2
Everton v Tottenham
For me this is probably the best game of the round. Everton come into this game on the back of a
- Our Top Bet – Tottenham to win – 9/5
Thursday 11th February
Wolves v Southampton
These are two teams struggling for goals and a bit of form at the moment, especially Southampton who have lost all their last five in the league. Wolves form is slightly better than that but they are missing the injured Jiménez in attack. This game to me feels like a game that will be tight until late on and then one team will steal a late goal to win it and at the moment, I feel that team is most likely to be Wolves.
- Our Top Bet – HT/FT – Draw / Wolverhampton – 9/2
Barnsley v Chelsea
This looks a very tough ask for the Championship side against a Chelsea side who have won their last three under Thomas Tuchel. Barnsley will hope to keep it tight for as long as possible but I think once Chelsea score a goal, they will then be able to open up Barnsley more often and as that happens, I would expect Chelsea to add a goal or two to secure a relatively straightforward passage into the quarterfinals.
- Our Top Bet – Chelsea to win 3-0 is a 15/2 shot in the Correct Score market.
