Grading – B+

Losing Gundogan was a blow, but Kovacic is a great replacement. It remains to be seen what City do given that several big names are still being linked with moves away, some of which may well need replacing late in the window, but it’s been solid business so far. Pep Guardiola and the Champions are well set to try and make it four in a row.

Eddie Howe is stymied a little by FFP rules, but has bought wisely in Tonali and Harvey Barnes. If he can get some of the other unwanted players off the wage bill, then I’d not rule out another signing and a good summer’s work.

After signing so many players last season, Forest needed a quieter odd-season to move on some unwanted players to create space for a few important others.
